Hello Edward,

I so agree. I was going to write a blog post about it.
Many marketers are struggling to find out who they are. They ( I was one of them actually) for whatever reason think they have to put on a mask and be like one of the gurus out there.
The audience can and will smell out posers from a mile. AND it is unnecessary, Gosh it took me soooo darn long to figure that one out!

Great story Edward. Knowing your "why" is one thing. Having a strong enough why to last the years is another. Almost five years in direct marketing and you should hear MYstory. LOL.

Definitely must be yourself. You don't come across as sincere and genuine if you totally copy someone else. Learn from others and adapt what fits your style. Good stuff!

People always think they've gotta look like somebody else, Edward.

But you're right. They've really got to be themselves in order to attract people to their brand. The reason people are attracted to others is for their authenticity first and foremost, not their ability to impersonate someone else.

Thanks for sharing Jenna. You are totally right. People mix up business and pleasure. So much so that they end up taking things personal. I struggled with a personal connection to a previous business that I started and worked in. I could not even see myself outside of it. Makes things tough when you have to make hard business decisions that others may not agree with.

That's it Edward! Right on! You know...I really appreciate the empowerment in this video tip. Just Be You! It seams simple of an advice, yet we are often tempted to try and be like those who we admire and in the process we try to take on their way of speaking and act as if we are them...we are not. I can relate to this as I was trying so hard to be a clone of my personal mentor. It just didn't work. My success started to take on a life of it own when I started to be ME.

Thanks for the reminder Edward. This is something that most people struggle with, especially entrepreneurs and business owners, because you want to be liked by everyone. Unfortunately wanting to appeal to the masses makes you very vanilla and no one is ever crazy about vanilla. So I always believe that it is better to let people see who you really are, quirks and all and those who this appeals to will LOVE you and those that don't wouldn't have ever been a good customer anyway! :)

Hi Edward it is always good to hear about the "why" and the "how" again. We all need to be reminded of it from time to time.

We are now 10 days into 2012 and I am wondering how many of the "New Year Resolutions" are still standing. The change of a year is a great time to set new goals but they do have to be followed through. Setting them is the easier bit.

Another good tip is to send your prospect to a capture page first, to get their name and email, and then send them to your affiliate links.

That's what I do, and it works well.
